The Jungfraujoch is actually a col or mountain pass between the 3 mountains, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in the Bernese Alps. The
Jungfraubahn cog railway goes to the
Jungfraujoch railway station at 3,454 m (11,333 ft), the highest in Europe.
We woke up to a cloudy day and were a litttle disappointed as we had plans to go to Jungfraujoch...a little later a light drizzle...more disappointment and then a little sunshine ... a ray of hope...we quickly finished breakfast and caught a train from Interlaken to Kleine Schiedegg Station via Grindelwald.
View of the landscapes from the moving train, a few moments when we get little sunlight...
the Kleine Scheidegge railway station...Hiya sleeps on:)
View from the cog wheel train-few visitors had decided to trek a short distance between the stations. This was the final leg of our train journey from Kleine Scheidegge to Jungfraujoch.Soon after we moved through the tunnels to reach the top of Europe.
as we go higher up more and more clouds greet us...
Finally the destination -Jungfraujoch!We were not lucky enough to enjoy a clear panoramic view from the top of Europe ...
clouds were moving in fast...
Just wondering how this mountain crow survives here...
and this tiny bird too...
We tried going to the Sphinx but just a few minutes of walk and the kids were really feeing the cold...I gave Diya my jacket and Hiya had her lips turning blue with cold so we had no choice but to turn back and so only Arun went to venture out:) and this is what he captured...
One of the peaks..peeping through the clouds..
a closer look at the breaking icicles...
Glimpse of the peaks...deliberately kept humans in the frame to refect the scale(humans:mountains)
still no sign of sunshine...so it was not a very happy sighting for us...a light lunch and we head back via Lauterbrunne ...
at one of the stations...
snow clad mountains...
We even spotted this waterfall at a distance:)

Your travels in Switzerland have been great. Somewhere I'd love to go.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly looked cold up the mountains.
Awesome clicks, dream place.
ReplyDeleteyou was very high in the everlasting snow! wow! i have been in the area but not up on the mountain :) wonderful pics!
ReplyDeleteAmazingly beautiful scenery. The colours are wonderfully vivid. Lots of houses dotted amongst the green hills. Such a beautiful country (and cold).
ReplyDeleteVery nice with great colors, I like them all, beautiful scenery. Greetings and good weekend.
ReplyDeleteWow---that had to have been an amazing trip... What month of the year did you visit Switzerland? I looked up the elevation at Jungfraujoch --and it says that it was 11,322 feet... Amazing... Sorry it was so cold though--but you all did get some great photos.. Thanks SO much for sharing. Switzerland is on my list!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
I'm struck by two things as i read your last two posts. First, this was a wonderful trip, but also a challenge, since travelling with two young children requires a lot of continual adjustment to keep everyone happy. Even at times when you were cold or tired or disappointed, the photos show that you found a way to have fun. I think you are adventurous, brave and excellent parents. Second, i read and loved the story of Heidi when I was a child. Many of these amazing photographs bring that story's scenery to mind, just the way i imagined it. At times, I felt I was going up and down the mountains with you. Thanks for recording this journey for your readers and for your children to enjoy when they are older.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenic shots of Switzerland. Thanks for sharing your trip.

The colors of the countryside are so vivid...just gorgeous. This trip sounds amazing...what incredible scenery you saw. Too bad it was so cold and cloudy at "the top of Europe," but the shot of the mountain peak peeking through the clouds was great!

ReplyDeleteshantana this was a fantastic treat. i want to say just what blackjack did, she put it perfectly. i was thinking the same thing, how brave and adventurous you and arun are, and how fortunate your children are to have you both for parents. i loved looking at all these photos, what a gorgeous place and pictures, every one. thank you so much for sharing.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun photographic trip you have given me to a place I probably will never see in my lifetime. It is stunning and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a beautiful part of the world, I'd love to see it in person someday! I'm sorry you didn't have clearer, warmer weather for your journey, but in spite of (and sometimes because of!) the clouds, you got some spectacular photos! The one of the "peeking peak" is one of my favorites. And how DO those birds manage up there? The little song bird looks quite lost! The dramatic juxtaposition of the vivid green and the glacial snow is amazing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these photos of your trip to the top of Europe! Just beautiful!
